Frequently Asked Questions
What is developmental coaching?
Developmental coaching is a process that allows you to look at the past and focus on the thoughts, assumptions, values, and emotions that drive your actions and behaviors. It is an effective way to increase your awareness and inspire transformation. Developmental coaching is a holistic process to recognize your patterns, tap into your values, and develop solutions specific to how you operate, so behavioral changes are meaningful and lasting. By focusing on the whole person and not just behavior change, you will be empowered to make choices that support sustainable change.
What is the difference between developmental coaching and life coaching?
Developmental coaching, as opposed to life coaching, evaluates past experiences to consider the stage of development that a person is in. Personal development focuses on increasing your self-awareness and looking at life goals, personal challenges, and long-standing aspirations. Life coaches, on the other hand, are trained to overall help people better understand themselves and make decisions in multiple areas of their lives. They often focus on spirituality, life fulfillment, and balance.
What happens once I decide to be coached?
Once you decide to be coached we schedule a call (approx. 15 minutes) to allow you to learn more about me and my approach and ask any questions you might have about the process. Once we decide that we are a right fit for each other, we schedule our first coaching session and begin your new journey of self-discovery and self-fulfillment.
What is the difference between coaching and therapy?
Both coaches and therapists can guide you to a better, more fulfilling place than where you began. However, therapists are trained to treat mental illness or other significant emotional and relational concerns, while coaches seek to help you elevate performance in specific areas. Both professions are meaningful and can have a significant impact on your life. In therapy, the main focus is on clinical difficulties (e.g. depression or anxiety), whereas the coaching process is geared towards non-clinical issues, such as personal and professional development and growth. Although coaches do not focus on mental health, oftentimes times my clients do experience improvements in their physical and mental well-being as “sight effects” of working on themselves and paying attention to their unmet needs, goals, and desires.
